Tamara’s Wedding Blog - Chapter 2 - The Plans So Far…

My Grandma has called me twice recently, just to check on what I have organised for the wedding. Both of those conversations have gone something like this:

“Have you got a venue yet?”… “No Grandma”
“Have you got a dress?”… “ No Grandma”
“A photographer?” … “Nope”
“Transport?” … “No, that’s not sorted either”
“Well, what have you got organised?”

My answer, unsurprisingly, was nothing.

At first I laughed the phone calls off as just my Grandma being my Grandma. But I’ve started thinking that now, with less than 10 months to go I really should start planning a little bit more. I had taken on a ‘don’t stress, everything will fall into place’ attitude and it was dawning on me that this might not be the best approach to planning a wedding. With that in mind I went on a mission, to get at least a few things sorted.

So first item on the list and possibly the most important: find a venue. We’ve searched and searched (and I’ve got countless emails with suggestions from family and friends), but the answer came from the most unlikely source…a cab driver (yes, it seems there are still some cab drivers left who know the city). It’s only a tentative booking at the moment as I’m still waiting on all the information, e.g. price (so I can’t spill the beans on where it is yet), but the view from the terrace is fantastic and at night I can imagine it will be even better. On top of that it is much closer to the city then everything else I had looked at, so I’m breathing a sigh of relief that I’ve got my name there if I want it!

Second: photographer. I didn’t realise how popular wedding photographers were, I guess if you’ve never planned a wedding before you just don’t know what to expect? I fell in love with no less than 5 different photographers (well their portfolios) and was gently let down by no less than 5 photographers, each passing on their recommendations of who to try next. I was eventually pointed in the direction of a lovely photographer based in Toowoomba, whose photos look AMAZING. We’ve had chats over the phone and email and our first date isn’t until next Sunday, but signs are pointing towards this photographer as being ‘the one’! :-)

So with those two big items basically crossed off my list, I’m letting myself relax back into my laid back approach. I’m enjoying trawling through wedding websites, looking at endless pictures of wedding dresses trying to find The Dress, and entertaining (read: boring) my gorgeous Husband-to-be with another idea of what we can do on the day!

Merry Christmas everyone!
